My Reasons for Quitting Neopets.
By Chante’ Brenda
I have many reasons for quitting Neopets. But I don’t want this article to be extremely long, so I will only name a few.
1. TNT has lost concern for their members and has become selfish.
It’s sad, but true. TNT’s care for their members has turned into care for money. They no longer have concern for what they do the users or how the users feel. Before, TNT did whatever they could to please their users. Everything was free and no one got an unfair advantage in exchange for money. If you contacted them, they would respond quickly, probably within a day or so. But now, TNT will never respond to you if you contact them and if they do, it will mostly likely be unhelpful. You can have access to extra benefits if you pay for Premium and the NC Mall. TNT once even stated that the site would always be free, but it was a lie. While I understand that the staff do need money to support themselves and their families, but I do not see that as an excuse to treat users poorly and create pay-to-play features. TNT only cares about making money rather than pleasing their members.
2. TNT favors certain users.
The only user I know that TNT favors is featheralley. But that’s not the point. TNT sees favoritism as something that is fair. This user could break many rules and never even receive a warning. I am only making an assumption as I don’t know for sure, but that sounds right to me. In TNT’s eyes, featheralley is an angel. Never does anything wrong, always compliments TNT, etc. From what I know, featheralley didn’t have to work very hard for her pets or anything else. TNT just handed it to her. How is this fair to the other users? It’s no wonder people beg. They think should get what they want without working and TNT ostensibly supports this with their preferential treatment of featheralley.
3. TNT freezes accounts unfairly and for the simplest things.
A friend of mine had her account frozen just for complaining about TNT. It wasn’t really a complaint. It was actually her opinion. She said TNT wasn’t very smart for letting Viacom buy Neopets. Her account was frozen for harassment. Now how was she “harassing” anyone? Sure, my friend had a negative side. After all, who doesn’t? She was a bit skeptical, but never malevolent or rude. She told me that a user had said she was wrong and it was smart of TNT to let Viacom buy the site. And this is the user that I feel should've been frozen. This user had even cursed at my friend, calling her an idiot and saying some other nasty things to her. This user wasn’t frozen and still isn’t, yet my friend was. We honestly cannot make any sense out of that. I’m willing to bet that there are scammers that are unfrozen and by the time they are, they’ve quit Neopets. TNT needs to improve their monitoring skills.
4. The Help Chat has really gone downhill.
The Help board used to be a pleasant, welcoming place. When I first joined, I met most of my neofriends through the HC. If you were to ask a question, you may not receive many replies, but you would get the one you were looking for. If you were to fortuitously put up a topic on the wrong board, you would be politely directed to the correct board. No rudeness, just polite correction. Now the HC is practically filled with spam. If you ask a question, it’ll feel like forever before you get a reply. Make a spam topic and you’ll get dozens of impolite, nasty, insolent replies. It’s more like a Harm Chat than a Help Chat. Users insult blameless newbies just for not knowing the answer to a simple question (ex. how to make neopoints) or for making a simple mistake (ex. asking where the paint brush shop is).
5. The website is not so innocent anymore.
Neopets is not the fun site it once was. It’s exasperating, tiresome and addicting. A dangerous combination. It’s powerful and can take over your life, like it did mine. From the surface, Neopets looks completely innocuous, but if you look deeper, you’ll see that it’s not so harmless after all. Neopets can easily go from being just a tranquil place to being an addictive place. You must be careful. TNT has already proved they aren’t innocent and it’s quite easy to find out.
I did have some help in quitting Neopets: TNT. Their extreme changes and selfish attitude pushed me away from the site once I decided to finally quit. I felt so good after quitting, better than I’ve ever felt. I’m learning a lot, no thanks to Neopets. Right now, I’m learning how sew and make clothing.
I have more reasons for quitting, but I want this article to end here. I thank you again for your marvelous website.
