I wouldn't consider myself addicted to Neopets per se; however, I spent my fair share of time "playing". Come to think of it...I don't remember the last time I seriously played the game. I guess I just lost all motivation...
See, after my old main (skeeredkittah) was unjustly frozen, I tried everything to get it back. I only spent an hour a day "playing" but I was still proud of what I had. After asking TNT politely as to why my account was frozen, they claimed that I had been sharing my account with four to five different people. Here are just a few reasons as to why their reason was a load of crap:
- I was the only person in my entire household that played Neopets
- I only logged into Neopets on my personal laptop at home (which is password protected)
- I frequently changed my password and deleted my cookies in order to prevent any possible chance of being CG'ed or scammed
- I never shared my information with anyone. Ever.
So naturally, I tried to protest. I explained that there was a chance they made a mistake and asked for them to look into it and restore my account. For as angry as I was, I was pretty freakin' polite about it. But that didn't matter to them. All I got in response was, "we have evidence that you were cheating". When I asked what the evidence was against me, they said it wasn't any of my business (I think I have a right to know why I'm being accused of cheating) and that it no longer mattered. I wasn't getting my account back.
I decided to let it go. I realized that I wasn't going to win and continuing to argue with them would only make matters worse. So I decided to quit. A few months later, a friend of mine joined and wanted me to make a new account, so I did. However, I did not actually work for anything on my account this time around. In all honesty, I'm probably the laziest person on Neopets. I got my lab ray from randomly winning the lottery and all of my painted pets from buying the lab ray and zapping my pets. I played a few games here and there, but I was never devoted. So I decided to spend my time elsewhere on Neopets...the Help Chat.
At first, the HC was a great place to help people and make friends at the same time. I reconnected with all my old friends from my main account and established friendships with many other people. But as time progressed, the HC became much, much worse. Everywhere you turned, people were bashing innocent users for absolutely no reason. People were yelled at, harassed, and bombarded with nasty remarks from users who simply needed to pick on someone via the internet to make themselves feel better. The HC gradually became a rude, snarky and unwelcome place. It has become rather disgusting to witness, in all honesty. The only reason I've stayed as long as I have is because of my friends, but now that many of them are leaving...I realize that I have no reason to stay at all. With the combination of TNT's lack of respect towards the majority of their users, and the lack of respect from user to user...I'm finally being pushed away.
Neopets was never a place for me to earn virtual money, obtain rare/painted pets, earn trophies, etc, in order to feel like I had accomplished something...rather, it was a place where I could go to relieve the stresses of my daily life and talk to my online pals while occasionally playing a game here and there. Unfortunately, Neopets has finally lost any sort of appeal to not only me, but thousands of users on a daily basis. Finding your site was simply the cherry on top of the cake. Within the next week (after saying my farewells to my friends), I will be quitting.
