I was hooked on Neopets at the age of 12 and played for nearly five and a half years. I haven’t talked about why I quit in the last few months, but I have strong support for my decision to do so.

I estimate that I spent somewhere between 3,000-5,000 hours of my life during that time period on Neopets. I’m appalled at myself. I only get to live my teenage years once and I wasted them. I deserve to enjoy the rest of my Senior year in high school, and I intend to make the best of it Neo-free.

The only reasons why I stayed with the site was because I was lazy (I was telling myself I was bored) and because I was attached to my 200+ member guild. As a result, I neglected my friends. Neopets isn’t a real place, pixels aren’t pets, and the people who run Neopets are bullies. I mentally packed my bags and said goodbye to my guild members, and I didn’t left my account as is so I would have no way to fuel someone else's addiction by giving stuff away.

I am not only free of the false reality of Neopets, but I know I’m now a listened to human being. I lost weight once I quit cold turkey as my eating habits improved. I take better care of myself now, and I spend the remainder of my valuable time with my friends. I even have a job now.

Life is so much more real now. I missed out on so much and I regret ever even touching that site.
