Scams in the trading post

Basically, putting a real one up, and then putting fake ones up.  This can work with paint brush plushies too, that look similar.  Basically 2 similar items.  You could also do one for real, and cancel the lot.  Then neomail everyone saying you had too many offers, so first to offer wins, and you put up the fake one.

The person isn't thinking, cause they want to be the first, so they bid on the fake item, and lose big time.

You could also lie about the price of an item. I talked to someone about this, and he said it works well.  In this example, the plushie (NOT THE REAL PAINT BRUSH) is only worth about 20k at the time I took this screenshot.  Below is the neomail I sent him, and his response.

Here's another that would do faerie paint brush PLUSHIES.  The "wishlist" would be like 165k=auto or 170k, hurry!  And here's the neomail conversation we had.

Others are easy to spot.  (This example was made when trades were 600k pure neopoints at the most) Like it's worth 800k, so bid 200k on a junk item and 600k on the good item cause they "only want pure".  Obviously they are going to accept the 200k for the junk item and withdraw the good item.  Leaving you without the good item and down 200k.

Also, "trades don't work/are too slow, send first and I'll send it to you".  Major scam.  I like to have fun with them.  I tell them I know you don't trust me, but I don't trust you.  You send first.

I tell them "you don't even have the item, do you?".  Put it in your shop, then I'll send first.  They never have the item, heh.

One that I heard about was really cool.  They were trading something expensive, say a paint brush or battle equipment.  They said they would trade it for like a "glowing blue feather".  Like a Baby Paint Brush, or Dark Battle Duck, [Wishlist: all I want is a glowing blue feather].  You search the wiz, and see it's buyable, but you never heard of it before.  You see only one buyable, and it looks like a hard to sell item.

They say the only want a glowing blue feather, so you buy it, and offer, but by then they withdraw.  What happened?  You got scammed.

Basically the scam was to get someone to buy that hard to sell item (glowing blue feather), maybe from a friend or their other account.  They may even be in the chat boards if anyone asks "does anyone have "glowing blue feather"?  And their friend will be "yeah, I have one for 200k, let's trade."  And since that paint brush or battle equipment is worth 400k, you do it, but get scammed.

Or there may be one in the trading post, a "glowing blue feather", and their other account, or their friend has the cheapest price, so you haggle with them to get it, only to find out later that you got scammed cause they don't want it.  Always be wary if they ONLY want a particular "rare" item . . . , and especially if the deal seems way too good.

ONLY OFFER PURE!  If they want an item, tell them that they can use the money to buy the item themselves.  Never buy an item just cause they want it and not points, cause you could (and probably will) get stuck with an item they were trying to sell, even buyable.

Related to this is someone offering a "glowing blue feather" or a Morphing Potion on one of your items.  Then, out of the blue, someone else says if you have a "glowing blue feather" or that Morphing Potion, I'll give you 600k or a baby paint brush or something ridiculous.  You accept the "glowing blue feather" or Morphing Potion, but when you try to offer it, guess what?  They don't want it now.

So in the end, you get stuck with this "glowing blue feather", or Morphing Potion or something really hard to sell, and never go through with the trade.  Clever yeah?
