My Restocking Tips
I only restocked for a few weeks, but I did learn that having a browser (opera) that refreshed every 30 seconds was a big help. However, with the new logins and stuff, you can't do that anymore. Val told me about this program "yrefresher" which refreshes Internet Explorer over and over. I suggest you try it if you are going to restock.
Just have the window of the shop that you restock at visible. Like you can chat or do auctions or trades, but somewhere on your computer's screen, you should be able to see (at all times) part of the shop's window. That way when new items start appearing, you can switch windows and start to restock.
My mouse was set to the fastest speed, even before I learned to restock. I have to move it one inch and it scrolls all the way across my screen. You may have a less sensitive mouse, but if you make it more sensitive (and faster) you will get used to it. It helps because you won't have to scroll and scroll to get to an item to click on. To change it, go to the Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, then Mouse, and under the Pointer Options tab, make it the fastest speed. Having a "trail" on your mouse is no help, and is distracting/annoying, at least to me.
Turning images off helps a bit, so that's recommended IF, and I repeat, IF you can read faster than you can scan pictures. I tried both ways, found no real difference. For restocking, I have a normal keyboard, so this demonstration assumes you do too.
My right hand would be on the mouse, and next to the number pad on the right side, the one that looks like this:
| Num Lock |
/ | * | - |
| 7 | 8 | 9 | + |
| 4 | 5 | 6 | |
| 1 | 2 | 3 | Enter |
| 0 | . | ||
My left hand would use three fingers. Initially my middle finger on my left hand would hit F5 over and over to refresh the screen when a restock happens. Once that happens, my hand moves down onto the keyboard, with my left ring finger over the tab button and my left thumb over the space bar. I'll explain why shortly. Anyway, this may not work best for you, for a variety of reasons. However, it works for me.
To summarize:
Right hand on mouse, and close to the number pad. Left middle finger refreshing with F5 until the restock happens. Then my left ring finger on the "tab" button and left thumb on the space bar.
It does take a while to figure out how much items are going for on the shop wiz. It will take a day or two, but once you learn them, pricing and knowing which items to buy should be easy. Just make sure, like anything, that you check the wiz every now and then to recalibrate your prices.

This is where I would restock at, the magic shop. It
is rather elite, and a lot of the best restockers come here, so I thought
hey, let's see if I can play with the "big boys". I
thought I did quite well. Anyway, I'm going to use the Healing Potion I as my example. If you are restocking Healing Potion I's, well, I don't know. Stop reading this. Stop playing neopets. Go back to school and pay more attention in your math class. Once I find something good, I stop refreshing with my left hand on F5 and move my hand down. At the same time, I move my mouse with my right hand to the item I want. With the mouse in my right hand, I click on the item I want by putting my mouse over it and click on it. |

A prompt comes up. This is where I use my left hand
(NOT THE MOUSE) to get rid of the prompt.
I use my left thumb and hit the space bar. Using the mouse to click "OK" takes too long. |

Now you are at the "haggle screen". With my right hand, and its mouse, I click on some point above the haggle box. Anywhere is fine, you'll see. |

Using my left hand, I hit tab, and bam, right to the box. No scrolling with my mouse and trying to highlight the number. Just tab to it after you click somewhere above it with the mouse. |

Then using my right hand, I type in a number around 80-90%
of what the shopkeeper is asking for (hopefully with duplicating numbers
like 888 or 1999 for speed) and hit enter.
Simple yeah? Oh yeah, don't buy Healing Potion I for 131np when they go for like 5np on the wiz, heh. This was just an example. If it was a Draik Morphing Potion, do you think I would have time to do all the screenshots? |
