Nice Number plus Increment Method
Basically, human nature gears us towards nice, round numbers, and this is no exception in bidding. People are more likely to bid 20,000 or 43,000 rather than numbers like 20,532 or 42,403. The Nice Number plus Increment Method will teach you how to take advantage of that by bidding a nice number, but also adding on the increment.
Let's go back to the second example in the seng44's 001 Block Method, except instead of a 1,000 increment, there's a 5np increment.
item B, value 70,000, increment 5, 5 seconds left
bidderN 52,000np
bidderQ 49,500np
bidderP 48,005np
bidderE 48,000np
bidderH 46,000np
At this point, with a 5 point increment, people are still going to bid at least 2,000 over. However, they probably will not use the 5 points, since going 2,000 over, why bother with 5np? Big mistake.
In this one, I would bid 56,005 or 57,005, depending on time of day, how many people are bidding, and such. The more people bidding it up, the higher I would go. The less people bidding, the lower I would go. Now I know someone is going to bid 2,000 over, especially if there were a lot of bids previously. If no one was bidding, or maybe only one person in the last 20 seconds, I might actually use the Early 2k, second 2k Method.
item B, value 70,000, increment 5, 5 seconds left
This auction is closed, you cannot place any more bids!
Me 56,005np
bidderS 56,000np
bidderH 54,005np
bidderN 52,000np
bidderQ 49,500np
bidderP 48,005np
bidderE 48,000np
bidderH 46,000np
Anyway, I would go 56,005, just in case someone else bids 56,000 (nice number). That way I can beat him. Easy yeah? It's similar to the seng44's 001 Block Method, but instead of blocking someone, here, we are adding extra "insurance" in case someone goes high, that extra increment might just be enough to win. Believe me, that extra increment has earned me hundreds of thousands of points.
It doesn't have to be for big auctions, you can do it for small ones too. Like if the increment is 1, and the item is worth 5,000, and the bid is around 3,500, you can bid 4,001 and win. Or maybe 4,201. For those small ones though, I would just do a 4,055 or something high, cause other people add the increment. Like other people do 4,001, so I might do 4,005.
Seriously, it's all mind games in winning auctions. You gotta love it.
Pros: You win out if someone was bidding the same "nice" number as you, but since you have that extra, you win.
Cons: You lose out on a little bit of extra neopoints. Since it is just the increment, you shouldn't have the same problem as the seng44's 001 Block Method in terms of overbidding. For that one, if the increment is 1,000, and you bid a high number plus 1, you might go over the 2,000 over the increment limit by 1 point. Here, adding on that extra increment or not is not going to affect the 2,000 over the increment limit since your bid would have been too high overall, irregardless of adding on that increment.
One thing that actually is bad is that it takes more time. It's easier to type in 56,000 rather than 56,001 because your fingers will be moving in more places. Rather than an easy 000, you have to type 001, and that takes a split second, and if it's laggy, or if you stumble, that split second could cost you the win. You might take too long, and it has happened to me, trying to do that extra increment, and I am stumbling trying to press the right buttons.
